Wildcards

Wildcards is an artist edition with both physical and digital components. Each collector receives a card deck that appears to have no faces and a classic blue back design, but in fact the numbers and symbols of the deck are hidden in each corner of the image. This technique is borrowed from the form of a magician's marked deck, used for performing card tricks, and seen here as a kind of steganography or encoding - much like the Off edition, where what appears to be a collection of solid black images in fact have other data hidden within them.

Inside each deck is a mintcard, containing instructions for minting the NFT-component of this artwork - one of 52 card images. NFTs from wildcards will not become transferable unless the Off secrets are revealed.

The first Wildcards dropped on June 21th at the opening of the solo exhibition Off: Endgame by Sarah Friend, at Public Works Administration, NY, and was commissioned by Refraction, Rhizome, and Fingerprints.
